Better Understand the Law

Will a criminal defense lawyer bail me out?

No. The job of a criminal defense attorney is to make sure that your legal rights are protected, to investigate your case, and to formulate and put forth your strongest defenses.

So long as the judge has set bail, someone other than your lawyer will have to bail you out – and, actually, you can bail yourself out, if you have access to funds to either post bail or hire a bail bondsman.

Bail bondsmen are available 24 hours a day – 7 days a week – 365 days a year. They never close.

  • Most bail bonds cost 10% of the bail as set by the judge.
  • Immigration and federal bonds cost 15% of the bail amount.
  • Bail bond fees are set by law.
