Iconic pop singer Justin Bieber is facing a $380,349 bill for unpaid property taxes on his Coachella Valley home. When news of the unpaid property taxes became public, Bieber started cleaning house of his business advisers and said he is considering suing them, due to allegedly mismanaging money.
The singer recently replaced his business manager Lou Taylor with Edward White, who is also Bieber’s financial manager. He also dismissed Scooter Braun, his longtime talent manager who discovered him when Bieber was only 12 years old.
After leaving Bieber, Mr. Braun announced that he is retiring after 23 years in music management.
The famous “Baby” singer was reportedly shocked by the discovery of the unpaid $380,349 tax debt, due from his 2023 purchase of the $16.6 million property in California’s Coachella Valley. Half of the $380,349 was owed to the IRS in October 2023, with the remaining half due in April 2025. However, Bieber defaulted on the October payment.
Bieber’s team has not released a statement about the unpaid tax bills. According to Celebrity Net Worth, as of July 2024, Bieber was worth about $300 million.
His success is a true rags-to-riches story. At twelve years old, in 2007, he sang a hit song by Ne-Yo, “So Sick,” in a Canadian singing contest. His mother took a live video of him singing which she posted on You Tube, and then kept adding more live performances of him.
Scooter Braun, a famous record producer, saw one of Bieber’s videos and then found him in Canada, and talked his mother into letting him take the young boy to Atlanta to have him do demo tapes. Only a week after arriving in the U.S., Mr. Bieber was singing for the global star Usher.
Bieber’s incredible popularity took off at breakneck speed. His hit song “Baby” has 2.9 billion views on YouTube. “Sorry,” one of his music videos on YouTube, has over 3.6 billion views, and he has over 71 million subscribers on the channel.
The artist sold his music catalog in January 2023 for $200 million to Hipgnosis Songs Capital.
Numerous celebrities, such as Michael Jackson, Kim Basinger, Mike Tyson, 50 Cent, and many others have found unimaginable fame yet still went bankrupt or died in debt due to excessive lifestyles, or financial mismanagement, or even theft. Perhaps Bieber’s steps to get his financial house in order after learning of this tax bill will help him avoid such a fate.
